I am not a 'math person' however I know just enough to realize its potential to fascinate and capture one's imagination.

Every discipline has stories to tell, stories that when told by a teacher who is passionate and inspired by the discipline, will put 'fire in the belly' of their students. Read Jardine's "Curriculum in Abundance" and/or Parker Palmer's "Courage to Teach". I disagree (based on my experience as a teacher of Humanities) with this author that math is the only discipline that is limitless in its abundance to explore.

"Relevance" (the response to: are we ever going to use this) is such a bland, uninspiring term to describe what is fascinating, mysterious, novel ... about each discipline. Young people are not inspired, motivated to learn something now in order to be able to use it later.

Thank you for this post.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14045698573119392355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180967199431703655.post-6250604746924866822016-09-03T20:44:22.434-07:002016-09-03T20:44:22.434-07:00Creativity is great, and concepts are great, but r...Creativity is great, and concepts are great, but rote is the time-tested method for making sure EVERYONE learns enough to function (https://schoolcrossing.blogspot.com/2015/08/nothing-wrong-with-rote.html).S Goyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18373952981169252818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180967199431703655.post-80361772595505149372015-05-13T03:44:31.494-07:002015-05-13T03:44:31.494-07:00This is very helpful information. i like i so much...This is very helpful information. i like i so much. thanks for share this kind of great content. best of luck for your blogging. Junior actually lost $115k in the deal."

Problem is while the historical returns of the market are greater than 5% annually, the historical returns of the individual investor are 1%, making Social Security's 3% look like a pretty good deal.

And that is before considering that the benefits for those who really need the safety net will likely exceed the contributions by a mile. A recent report observed that the baby boomers are the first generation to do worse than their parents.

Many boomers are in that yawning chasm between their last unemployment check and their first Social Security check. When Social Security claculates their benefits based on the income of the last 35 years, all those empty years will pull the benefit amount down. Voila! I speak from experience as a former principal and Special Ed Director. There are great, mediocre and poor doctors, lawyers, salesmen, waiters, mechanics and teachers. The trick is knowing how to recruit and choose. At high schools, it's absolutely the worst. That would be a great study---with a lot of caveats. It might be hard to find a sufficiently large control and treatment sample. Then there is the problem of replication in the wider school system where many elementary teachers are weak with math. Another difficulty is American society's lack of commitment to academic achievement regardless of all the kip service to the contrary.S Goyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18373952981169252818noreply@blogger.com
